Statue of Mary, hand-carved in Italy and gifted
by the Church at Netley upon its closure.
Commissioned in 2008, the Cross above the Altar
was designed and made by former Willunga artist
Jennifer Taylor.
Glass canes are fused into one, symbolising many
becoming one and the power of the cross to unite us.
The colours remind us of the gifts of water, plants and sky.
The Tabernacle was designed by Galilee parishioner
Leo Dundon, fabricated and constructed at Marcellin College
and coloured by B & S Paint and Panel, Seaford.
It represents Christ present among us (the outer circles)
surrounded by his twelve disciples.
The surround was made by John McWilliams (Sellicks), who also
fashioned the small wooden cross on the Altar from one of the fence
posts surrounding the property and restored the wooden
Paschal Candle and Processsional Cross stands.
Also created by Jennifer Taylor and made by Glass Plus, Aldinga,
the foyer window encapsulates digital images into glass.
Side 1 shows Aldinga Beach looking south, to the hills.
Side 2 shows Aldinga Scrub, with the Tjilbruke story ibis.
The dove symbolises the Spirit of God in Christian belief.
Birds are also symbolic messengers from the heavens.
A sheoak tree, drawn by Sue Roche, links the panels and
its cones are used in the safety decal.
The Baptismal Bowl, with swirls suggesting life-giving water, was
designed by Jennifer Taylor and Glen Howett and hand-crafted by
Glen at Willunga Glass Studio. It is also a visual reminder of the coolum
which indigenous people use for many tasks, including carrying water.
Made from re-cycled steel by Justin de Leeuw of the
Aldinga Arts-Eco Village, the base represents the tree of life.
It is a reminder, too, of the trees around us supporting our life.
The Sea of Galilee mosaic, designed, executed and donated by
parishioner Mary O'Loughlin, depicts the real sea of Galilee
with shore in front and mountains behind, redolent of our
own location. Loaves and fishes, miraculous food for a crowd
who followed Jesus to hear his teachings, are central.
The Altar, Lectern, President's Chair and Table and
Holy Water Font in the foyer were crafted in red gum by
Jeff Prior of "It Ain't Firewood," at Normanville.
The Altar is shaped like an ordinary table, reminding us that we come
together as the family of God when we gather to celebrate Mass.
Uprights supporting it are reminiscent of ribs of the wooden boats
used in Galilee in the time of Jesus and still used locally today.
Red gum in the Foyer Front, in memory of Mel and Cath Roocke,
is from the family's "Hillslee" property
The Holy Oils are contained in mouth-blown glass
cruets with flame-shaped lids, also designed by
Jennifer Taylor and hand-crafted locally.
The wall crosses for the Consecration of the Church
were designed by Leo Dundon and fabricated
by Ellul at Adinga Beach.
Sue Green based this moving portrayal of the older
Mary of Galilee on the Pieta. It is located outside the Chapel.
